Is November a good time to visit Nepal?

Yes – November is one of the most popular months in Nepal. The monsoon is over, the air is usually clear and dry, and the Himalaya are at their sharpest. Days are mild in Kathmandu and Pokhara; nights at altitude are cold, often below freezing on high trails.

The trade-off is crowds: autumn is peak trekking season, so lodges on the popular routes fill early. December stays dry and clear but gets colder and quieter – a good choice if you want the same views with fewer people.

Can I still book a Nepal trip for this November?

Not for a November start. Every urbook Nepal package needs at least 30 days' notice so the local operator can confirm hotels, lodges and permits. Booking today (7 November 2026) the earliest start is early December.

  • December 2026: dry, clear, colder nights – good for Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and lower treks.
  • Next autumn (October–November 2027): book well ahead for the classic trekking season.
  • Spring (March–May): warmer, with rhododendrons in flower on the Annapurna trails.

Not trekking? What to do in Nepal in winter

You don't need to trek to enjoy Nepal's clear season. Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan are at their most comfortable from November to February, with sunny days and cool evenings.

  • Kathmandu: Durbar Square, the hilltop Swayambhunath stupa and the old Newari towns nearby; Tihar, Nepal's festival of lights, usually falls in October or November (dates follow the lunar calendar).
  • Nagarkot and Dhulikhel: sunrise over the Himalaya from the valley rim, a short drive from Kathmandu.
  • Pokhara: boating on Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range behind it.
  • Chitwan: jungle activities and the chance to see one-horned rhino – the 7-day Wonders of Nepal package combines Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan with a cable car ride and a jeep safari.

Momos and thukpa (noodle soup) are the warming food of a winter trip – you'll find both everywhere from Kathmandu cafés to trek lodges.

How cold is it trekking in Nepal in December?

Expect cold mornings and nights on any trek, and freezing temperatures at the higher lodges, with mostly sunny days. Lower routes such as the Annapurna foothills stay more comfortable.

  • Pack a warm down jacket, thermal layers, a hat and gloves.
  • Bring a good sleeping bag – trek lodges are simple and unheated.
  • Broken-in walking boots, sunglasses and sun cream (the sun is strong at altitude).
  • A head torch for early starts and power cuts.
